Playing + Learning + Creating = Filmmaking

The pupils of the 2nd grade (class B1) of Larissa’s 26th Primary School became acquainted with the world of cinema both on a theory and experience level. Once they got divided into groups, they explored topics such as the history of cinema, Greek and foreign composers who composed music for films, set and light design, shot sizes, cinematic frames, sound, costumes, roles, and script.

They then began the preparations for film production. They first researched and considered which story would be the foundation for their script. Using theatre game techniques, they worked on the main theme of the story, and they also developed the character roles and distributed them. Lastly, they designed the film set and the costumes.

Once the shooting was completed, the film was presented at the school as part of the project’s final presentation, having the children's parents as guests. Prior to the presentation of the film, the pupils visited the Royal Theatre and the Cinema Museum & Cinematheque in Thessaloniki. There, they were guided through an exhibition of costumes and they took part in an educational programsme related to the project’s goals.

The children worked collaboratively, they took initiative, and they learned to co-exist and to express themselves artistically; they also achieved expressing themselves in a creative way through tasks such as role development, set and costume design, music production, and setting up a film.

  • 21 pupils from the 2nd grade (class B1) and 3 teachers participated in this activity.
