Τhe John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, in the framework of its long-standing collaboration with the non-profit organisation Safe Water Sports, supported once again in 2024 the operation of the “Ocean Lab”, a specially designed educational space on the organisation’s premises that combines technology, play, and learning. At the same time, the Foundation covered the transportation expenses for students and teachers from public schools throughout Attica, enabling them to make free educational visits and participate in the interactive educational programme implemented by the organisation during the 2023-2024 school year. This educational programme, approved by the Ministry of Education, aims to raise awareness among primary and secondary school students about safety rules and accident prevention in the aquatic environment. During their visits, students engaged in fun and educational technology-based activities designed to help them familiarise themselves with the aquatic environment, develop safe behaviour when enjoying the sea, and foster a sense of teamwork and personal responsibility.
During the school year 2023-2024, 258 educational visits to the “Ocean Lab” took place, with the participation of 5,662 students.
“The educational programme has significantly contributed to informing and educating children and young people about the risks associated with the aquatic environment and to teaching safe practices during their participation in recreational water activities. At the same time, it has strengthened environmental awareness and respect for the natural environment. With the support of the Latsis Foundation, we are able to achieve our goals and set new, higher standards for our social contribution and educational mission.”
