Research on the importance of music intervention in children on the autism spectrum
The “Logou Paignion” team studied the function of music as a tool for the mental development and social integration of children in the autism spectrum. Individual and group sessions in the premises of “To Litharaki – Day Centre for Children – General Children’s Hospital P.A. Kyriakou”, which accepts children with psychosis and autism, took place. The sessions comprised individual lessons of a musical instrument, group music kinetics lessons, and individual sessions with children who have great difficulty with communication. The aim of the seminars was to contribute to the mental development and socialization of children. At the same time, the sessions were recorded by a music teacher and a psychologist, and a report presenting and evaluating the programme was prepared. Finally, a presentation, open to the public, teachers and psychologists, was made of the results of the research programme.
- 36 individual and group meetings with the children participating in the programme took place.
- In total, 9 children in the autism spectrum participated.
This action was implemented under the "Points of Support" programme, which aims to support innovative social initiatives with maximum impact on vulnerable social groups, to promote innovation and improve effectiveness as well as to maximise social impact in the field of NGOs. The programme is an initiative of the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, the TIMA Charitable Foundation, the Hellenic Hope charity organization and the Bodossaki Foundation.
