The 2nd Summer School "Mediterranean Marine Ecosystems: Functioning and Evolution" was the outcome of the Foundation’s collaboration with the Oceanographic Institute of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research. It took place on 1-15 July 2010 at Pallas Athena, the Foundation’s premises in Kefalari, with the participation of 29 postgraduate students and young researchers from countries of the Mediterranean. The participants were given the opportunity to attend lectures of 25 scientists from universities and research centres of 7 different countries as well as a 2-day practice on board the oceanographic research vessel AEGAEO of HCMR.
The major objective of this course was to provide a high-quality framework within which young scientists from Greece and abroad would increase their specialised knowledge and obtain up-to-date research regarding the Mediterranean Marine Ecosystems. At the same time, through interaction and information compiled during the lectures, the Summer School aspired to contribute to the development of a new generation of scientists who will be able to study, research and eventually protect the aforementioned sensitive ecosystems.
