The devastating fires that affected much of the country in August 2007 led the Foundation in the design and implementation of the program "It is our duty", the main axes of which was on the one hand the restoration of fire-stricken areas and on the other hand the prevention of similar situations in the future.

In this context, among other activities, the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation and Eurobank EFG implemented a programme for free distribution of operational equipment. The programme called all voluntary organisations registered in the Registry of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection mainly active in forest protection and firefighting.

Through the program 161 volunteer groups nationwide was reinforced with modern operational equipment necessary for the uninterrupted continuation of their work, while a nationwide survey on "Volunteerism and Forest Protection" was funded.
