Funded by the Foundation, the project of upgrade and equipment of Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of the General University Hospital of Patras was implemented, doubling its capacity. The beds were increased from 2 to 6, enabling over 50 allogeneic transplants annually, more than double compared to those before the project, while at the same time a daily hospitalisation chamber was created. The Unit of total surface of 265m² meets all the requirements for long hospitalisation in sterile conditions for vulnerable patients, giving particular emphasis on the development of a more humane and modern environment for patients.  

The Unit receives patients for bone marrow transplant from across the country and mainly from Western Greece, the Ionian Islands and Cyprus, is one of the three Bone Marrow Transplant Units for Adults (together with those which operate in “Evangelismos” Hospital of Athens and “G. Papanikolaou” Hospital of Thessaloniki). Three Units conduct transplants by volunteer bone marrow donors from the World Donors Reserve and constitute a centre of the National Transplants Organization for the reception of bone marrow transplants from volunteer donors.
