The annual event to award the University Prizes of the Fondation Latsis Internationale, part of the Latsis Foundation Network, took place on Thursday 30 September 2010 in Geneva. The Fondation Latsis Internationale is a non-profit, public benefit Foundation established in 1975, and has been awarding four University Prizes Prizes in Switzerland since 1983. These prizes, accompanied by 25,000 Swiss francs each, are awarded to offer encouragement and recognition for their work to young university researchers under the age of 40 from four well known universities and polytechnic schools in Switzerland for their contribution in the field of scientific and technological research.

This year, the prizes were awarded to Dr. Mario Agio of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich; Dr. Carlos Canto Alvarez of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne; Dr Violeta Seretan of the University of Geneva, and Dr Christian Thӧni of the Université de St Gall.

The ceremony was followed by a lecture on the political implications of financial crises by Niall Ferguson, Professor of Economic History at Harvard University.
