The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation wishes

  • to familiarise young students with modern educational models, based on a student-centred approach to knowledge, so as to lay the foundations for the creation of an open learning environment, which will ultimately produce active citizens;
  • to promote innovation in education through targeted activities;
  • to support the educational process through the appropriate use of cooperative/collaborative teaching methods and the use of ICT; and
  • to help with the development of entrepreneurship in young pupils of Primary Education;

and, therefore, invites for the fourth year running, primary education teachers to submit proposals, which will be implemented during the 2016-17 school year by kindergartens and primary schools of the 1st Directorate of Primary Education of Athens and the Directorates of Primary Education of Piraeus, Eastern Attica and Western Attica.

The key aim of the programme is to strengthen the personality of the student, to help his/her self-growth and development, to promote and reinforce self-esteem, self-confidence and self-perception through innovative actions (e.g. SMART targeting) and to implement cooperative/collaborative teaching methods.

At the same time, it provides an opportunity to submit proposals, which will promote students' entrepreneurship (e.g. school cooperatives), thus cultivating their personal skills and critical thinking (critical thinking approach), familiarising them with concepts related to the field of economics, linking school life with real life situations through experiential actions and activating students' creativity and ability to resolve everyday problems (problem solving method).

This programme makes it possible for schools to cultivate and promote a spirit of collaboration and for teachers to apply modern teaching methods and innovative educational ideas and practices.
