The successful applicant will also gain access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences.

Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals with demonstrable leadership potential who also have strong academic backgrounds. Since the programme began in 1983, 50,000 outstanding professionals from over 160 countries and territories have had the opportunity to develop in the UK through Chevening. The Chevening Programme is now 35 years old, with Chevening Alumni making positive contributions to their countries or in their professional sectors since the programme began.

British Ambassador to Greece, Kate Smith CMG, said:

“I am delighted that Chevening once again offers an opportunity for the brightest and best Greek students to pursue postgraduate studies in this important field. Civil society has a crucial role to play in both our societies.

I would like to sincerely thank John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation for their collaboration and partnership. Our goal is to select a candidate who will make the most of their time in the UK, and return to Greece to pursue a career in the third sector.”

Mr. Dimitris Afendoulis, Secretary of the Executive Board to John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, said:

“The Chevening Scholarship Programme for studies in UK Universities is one of the most renowned organisations with a long history and global credibility, and we are delighted that it is being reintroduced to Greece upon the funding of the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation. The Programme aims at identifying and developing, academically and socially, future leaders who will assume key positions across various professional sectors.

The partnership of the Foundation with the British Embassy in Athens is part of the broader strategy of the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation aiming at providing targeted educational opportunities at all educational levels, both in Greece and abroad.

We have decided to associate the launch of this collaboration cycle with the provision of a scholarship for studies related to the development and empowerment of Civil Society, a traditionally strong sector in the UK."

Chevening Scholarships are funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organisations. Mr. Ben Coates, Head of Scholarships at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, explained that inviting brilliant professionals with leadership potential to the UK is important for breaking down barriers, better understanding the world we live in, and connecting with the people we share our planet with.

'Home to some of the world’s best universities, brightest students, and revered academics, the UK’s higher education sector promotes the exchange of information and ideas, as well as the building of knowledge and networks. Chevening Scholars find themselves immersed in that world, and emerge having grown academically, professionally, and personally as a result of their time in the UK.'
