Olympic Preparation Scholarship Programme 2023

For the seventh consecutive year, the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation supported the Olympic Preparation Scholarship Programme of the A. G. Leventis Foundation, supporting athletes from Greece and Cyprus during their preparation for participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Programme was co-funded by the Hellenic Olympic Committee, while for the first time, the Programme was also supported by the Cyprus Olympic Committee with the aim of supporting athletes representing all the Olympic Sports Federations of the country and to promote excellence and the Olympic values. The four institutions awarded a total of 58 scholarships to athletes who stood out for their performance in 2022. The Olympic Preparation Scholarship Programme of the A. G. Leventis Foundation has become a well-established institution as it has been supporting, for the last 24 years, those who train hard, often in unfavourable conditions, in order to be able to deservedly compete with the best of the world in the greatest celebration of athleticism, the Olympic Games, and inspire with their example the love for sports in our country.

  • For the 2022-2023 period, 68 athletes representing all Olympic Sports Federations were supported.
  • To this day, over 750 scholarships have been awarded to athletes from Greece and Cyprus from the beginning of the Programme in 1999.
  • Olympic scholarships have been received by athletes of a wide range of sports, such as track and field, cycling, canoeing and kayaking, archery, fencing, taekwondo, sailing, artistic swimming, rowing, tennis, etc.

“It’s very important for me to have received the scholarship through the Olympic Preparation Scholarship Programme, especially in a time when government funding is scarce, as it allows me to cope with the high level of competition. The World Championships and the Olympic Games I have participated in require the best physical and mental condition, and the endless hours of training often result in injuries and muscle problems. The financial support I receive gives me the opportunity to cover my physiotherapy sessions and achieve the best possible muscle recovery. I am grateful as this scholarship has helped me get one step closer to my dream.”
