Science Fiction

The educational programme "Science Fiction" was implemented at the 3rd Primary School of Chios by its 6th grade and reception class. Pupils of different cognitive and social backgrounds were introduced to scientific concepts from the field of astronomy, cosmology and particle physics, discovered the achievements of modern science and explored the mysteries of space. On the basis of experiential teaching methods, with the use of pedagogical material, ICT and art, combined with the subjects of Science, Geography and Mathematics, the pupils had the opportunity to actively participated, and thus feel included, in the learning process.

In the course of implementation of the activity, the pupils were able to bond as a team and work in the framework of such team, gaining knowledge and finding joy. Some to a greater and some to a lesser extent, but ultimately all of them were exposed to complex physics concepts and expressed their interest in what was happening in the classroom during the programme. Experiential activities such as collage making, painting, board games, educational robotics, music, nature hiking, use of the microscope, stargazing and drama performance provided equal opportunities for participation with respect for diversity. At the end of the year, our pupils diligently organized cosmology workshops to disseminate what they learned throughout the school community. Thus, the programme culminated in an event comprising a presentation of the relevant actions, a black theatre performance and a stargazing session in the courtyard of our school together with the Astronomy Association of Chios.
