The history of the first university neuro-psychiatric hospital institution in Greece is going to be recorded by the research team of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with the aim of rescuing and preserving the historical archival material of the Hospital. This documentation will make possible a future research on the progress of Eginitio Hospital and will gradually constitute, along with previous research initiatives, the entire history of the clinic, consisting at the same time the first complete and comprehensive historical study regarding hospital institutions in Greece.
This research project was conducted in 2012 with exclusive funding by the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, in a continuation of the Foundation's activities on supporting initiatives aimed at rescuing archival material and preserving historical memory. It pertains to the history of the first university neuro-psychiatric hospital institution in Greece and includes 18 interviews from members of the scientific, nursery and administrative staff who worked in the hospital during the period 1959-1970. The program highlights the significance of the oral history tools in the narration of the country's recent political and social history.
