Support of a professional association
Network of Social Workers of Greece
The Network of Social Workers of Greece (SKLE) is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation, founded in 1955 as the official professional and scientific association that represents over 5,000 social workers. In collaboration with other institutions, the association is actively involved in social issues, while securing Social Work’s principles as well as raising public awareness on the social worker profession. SKLE’s activity includes the organisation of conferences, meetings, web seminars and scientific studies for the defense of the social workers’ professional and scientific rights and the promotion of social policy issues.
The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation contributes to the association’s operational costs, in order to secure the continuation of its work in the scientific and social fields. With the Foundation's funding, SKLE created, inter alia, a website that hosts the journal "Social Work" published since 1986.
According to the Career Office of the Techological Institute of Crete, the main area of employment for social workers in Greece is the regional or local authorities.
