Creation of a Trauma Centre at the General Hospital of Rhodes
Pedtrauma (Pediatric Trauma Care)
Pedtrauma (Pediatric Trauma Care) was established on the initiative of a group of doctors and parents concerned about the prevention of children accidents, their immediate and effective treatment, as well as the upgrade of children’s healthcare across Greece. The activities of Pedtrauma vary and include educational presentations to schools aiming to inform students, parents and teachers on children accident prevention, along with seminars to medical and nursing staff. In addition, for the provision of immediate and spesialised treatment, the organisation seeks to create trauma centers to public and private hospitals throughout the country, providing them with specialised staff and equipment.
To that end, the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, in collaboration with Pedtrauma, funded the creation of a Trauma Center at the "Andreas Papandreou" General Hospital of Rhodes with the purpose of connecting pre-hospital to in-hospital treatment. The implementation of the project will improve the provided services of the Hospital, which treats the majority of the urgent trauma cases of the Dodecanese region, and mainly will allow the operation of a trauma registry system which facilitates the collection of adequate information for the optimal prevention and treatment of trauma.
The "Andreas Papandreou" General Hospital of Rhodes is situated at the area of Agioi Apostoloi in Rhodes. Telephone number: +30 22413 60 000
Each year approximately 500,000 child injury cases are reported across Greece, from which 700 are fatal and 3,000 result in disability. The 50% of the severe child injuries happen in places considered to be safe (42.5% happen at home and 10.4% at school), which indicates the persistent need for information on related issues.
