Humanitarian Medical Mission at Mekelle, Ethiopia
In April 2011, the organisation Mission ANTHROPOS organised a humanitarian mission for a second consecutive year at Mekelle, in Northern Ethiopia, with the support of the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation.
A team of 18 volunteers performed 51 surgical operations in pediatric, ENT (ear, nose and throat) and general surgery cases, at Ayder Referral Hospital and trained the members of the medical and paramedical staff in new surgical and anesthetic procedures and in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATL) techniques, using external defibrillator. The mission also contributed to the organisation of the out-patient clinic of ENT surgery and donated to the hospital 400 kgrs of medical equipment, including surgical, pharmaceutical material and medicines. Mission ANTHROPOS begins a new mission at Ethiopia on March 2nd, 2012 and, at the same time, is planning activities for the support of Greek people in need.
