self-government agencies and institutions that are active in the field of social welfare and health care.

The programme’s initial implementation phase focuses on Greek citizens living in regions of Attica and Thessaloniki who have been seriously affected by the fiscal crisis.

Through the Social Solidarity Programme’s activities, the Foundation seeks to provide immediate relief for those affected as well as to complement and enhance similar measures implemented by governmental and non-governmental agencies or other public welfare institutions in Greece.

Specific food aid activities for the indigent elderly and for families with many children—giving priority to single-parent households—and unemployed members are a key component of the programme. Beginning in April 2012, in collaboration with the Food Bank - Foundation to Fight Hunger, the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation is financing yearlong food aid programmes in 17 municipalities of the Region of Attica and 8 municipalities of the Thessaloniki Peripheral Unit, supporting about 5,600 of our fellow citizens.
