“Skills Development and Promotion of Employment for the Blind and Visually Impaired” Programme
Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece
As a continuation of earlier funding, in 2016 the Foundation continued its support for the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece for the implementation of the next phase of the programme titled “Skills Development and Promotion of Employment for the Blind and Visually Impaired.” The programme involved young unemployed people or people in employment needing to enhance their qualifications and skills but also newly blinded persons who are confronted with the need to redefine their professional orientation.
The grant was used to establish a special educational programme for training and liaison with the labour market, enhancement of vocational rehabilitation opportunities through the expansion to new professions, and the development of social skills. The courses available included the training course in the use of computers, the Computer Knowledge Certification Centre, the Special Section for Foreign Language Teaching, the Special Section for the Teaching of Braille, the Blind People’s Theatrical Workshop, the Traditional Dance section and the Sports Center.
- In total 260 individuals participated in the programme .
- The Liaison Office was visited by 190 people between 18 and 65 years of age.
- 160 people joined the classes being funded via the programme.
