Food aid programme for families in need
Church of Aghios Efthimios in Keratsini
The Church of Aghios Efthimios in Keratsini has extensive charity work in Greece and abroad, focusing its domestic activity on the support of the most deprived families residing in the parish and, more specifically, in the municipality of Keratsini - Drapetsona.
Serving this cause, the church, in collaboration with the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation and the Food Bank - Foundation to Fight Hunger, implements, since April 2012, a two-year food aid programme aiming to the relief of 60 families that reside in the area and are in poverty. Food packages are distributed monthly at home by volunteers to poor, large families and single parent families, taking into account possible health problems of the family members. Moreover, the church, as part of its public benefit work, with the daily work of 30 volunteers, operates a social grocery store and cloakroom and a store whose revenues are given to enhance the church's social work.
Twice a year, the Church of Aghios Efthimios gathers and sents clothing and footwear to the Mission of Madagaskar.
With the Foundation's support and the participation of 12 volunteers, the Church distributed stationery materials to approximately 230 students for the school year 2012 - 2013.
