The "Journey of Food" Documentary Series - Episode 5: The New Greek Cuisine

The final episode of the series begins after the end of World War II, when American scientists "invented" the concept of the Mediterranean Diet. The emergence of mass tourism in Greece and the spreading of complex and cheap food brought about wide-ranging changes to our diet; as a result Crete, the actual place that gave birth to the Mediterranean diet, has the most obese children in Europe today. The series closes with the creation of the "New Greek Cuisine": a cuisine that helps us reconnect with our history, reminds us that our food is a sum of our shared memories and encourages us to set the new, modern Greek table.
