The "Journey of Food" Documentary Series - Episode 2: The Beginning of Gastronomy

The second episode of the series takes us from ancient Athens and Sparta to Alexander the Great and the Roman island of Delos, and shows us how contact with different cultures introduced globalisation to our diet. We follow the Greek wine to Marseille and Burgundy, the procession to the Parthenon during the Great Panathenaia, where 100 animals were sacrificed, as well as the life of the common Athenian farmer, who ate only 1 to 2 kilos of meat a year. During the Roman years, the first gourmets in our history mix exotic foods and novel flavors, giving us the first gastronomy boom.
