"Manfred Lachs 2012" International Moot Court Competition

The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation supported the participation of the Greek delegation in the International Moot Court Competition "Manfred Lachs 2012", that took place in Bucharest, on 26 and 27 of April, 2012, organised by the International Institute of Space Law. The Greek team comprised students Katerina Pitsoli, Melina Strouggi and Stefania Vlachou, under the supervision of G. Kyriakopoulos, lecturer of International Law at the University of Athens. The Greek team came first at the competition, among similar teams from top European universities.
In October 2012, the team represented the European continent at the World Final held at Naples, Italy, again with the support of the Latsis Foundation. Having defeated the US team at the semi-finals, the Greek students competed at the final with India and won the second place in the world.
The competition begun in 1992 when the U.S. members of the International Institute of Space Law invited Georgetown University, George Washington University and the American University to each send two teams to participate in a moot court held as part of the International Astronautical Congress.
Each year 60 law schools from all over the world participate.
