6th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics

The 6th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 4 to 14 August 2012. Five Greek students won one silver and two bronze medals and two honorary distinctions. It is the first silver medal in the history of Greece's participation in the competition.

The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, in recognition of the significant educational work performed by the Hellenic Society for Astronomy and Space, supports its operation and the Greek delegations at the Olympiads since 2010.

Interesting facts

140 pupils from 28 European, Asian and N. American countries took part in the 6th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics.

The pupil that came first and won the gold medal is from Lithuania and managed to solve the 85% of the problems.
