Hellenic Mathematical Society's Competitions and Publications
Hellenic Mathematical Society
The 90-year history of the Hellenic Mathematical Society and its multidimensional voluntary contribution for the advancement and dissemination of various fields of Mathematics led the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation to support the Society in 2011. The funding partially covered organisation costs for the Panhellenic Competition in Mathematics and publication costs for the journals "Little Euclid" (primary school level), "Euclid A" (high school level) and "Euclid B" (lyceum level). Moreover, the funding partially covered the costs for the participation of the Greek delegation in the 52nd International Mathematical Olympiad held in Amsterdam, from 13 to 24 July 2011, where Greek students won 1 gold and 3 bronze medals and an honorary distinction.
The first International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) was held in Romania in 1959 and since then it is held annually in a different country.
Greece has been part of the IMO since 1975 and hosted the competition in 2004.
