The Society for Space and Astronomy is a non-profit organisation, officially established in 1922, with a wide range of actions aiming to promote and popularise astronomy concepts. The organisation of astronomy contests is one of the Society’s actions, where students all over Greece participate and the country’s representatives in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad are selected.
John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation supported the Greek team who travelled to Cracow, Poland to participate in the 5th Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad. The team came back with significant distinctions: two bronze medals and three honorable distinctions.
140 students from 27 countries from Europe, Asia and South America participated in the competition.
The student who was awarded the first place is from Czech Republic and solved the 77% of the problems.
