Architectural Exhibition "Greek Architects of Istanbul in the Era of Westernization"

With the aim to highlight the significant contribution of Greek architects to the city of Istanbul, the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation supported the architectural exhibition entitled "Greek Architects of Istanbul in the Era of Westernization".

The exhibition's inauguration was held on 22 November 2010 at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar Üniversitesi) and was organised by the Zografyon Alumni Association in collaboration with the Organisation Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture. Attendees of the ceremony were His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the President of he Organisation Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture, the Consul General of Greece at Istanbul Vassilios Bornovas, academics, architects and artists from Greece and Turkey, members of the Istanbul Greek community and visitors from Athens and Thessaloniki.

In 2011, the exhibition traveled to Greece, to Athens, Thessaloniki and Ioannina, accompanied by the billingual catalog (Greek and English), which was also partially funded by the Latsis Foundation.


Interesting facts

Zografyon Lyceum is one of the few greek schools of Contantinopolis. It was founded at the end of the 19th Century aiming to cover the increasing needs of the greek speaking population of the city and continues operations to date.
