Public call for the organization of the Latsis Foundation 1st International Summer School

The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation will be financing in the following years a series of Summer Schools in Greece. The first thematic cycle will focus on the topic “Environment”. In this context, the Foundation invites proposals from Greek Universities, Technical Colleges or Research Institutes (Organizing Body) to organize a Summer School for the year 2009.


The Summer School’s instructional activities will take place at the Foundation’s premises, at the “Pallas Athena” building, 59 Diligianni Street, Kifissia. Greek and foreign post-graduate or doctoral students (maximum 30 people) are the targeted participants. The Summer School instructional term will not exceed two weeks.


Conditions

  • The Organizing Body will have full responsibility for organizing and implementing the Summer School;
  • The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation will be the sole sponsor of the Summer School; the Organizing Body will sign a contract with the Foundation;
  • The funding provided will be administered through the Organizing Body’s Research Committee Account or other relevant grant administration entity of the Organizing Body;
  • A joint proposal submitted at a Sector/Department level (for Universities) and at a Institute/Lab level (for Research Centres) will be assessed positively;
  • The Summer School teaching staff will be required to include professors or researchers from equivalent Universities and Research Centres abroad;
  • Summer School attendance will be free of charge. Travel expenses of foreign as well as Greek students will not be covered.


Proposal Submission


The proposals submitted must include:

  • An application from the Organizing Committee of the Organizing Body, which will indicate the Committee members and the purpose/goal of the Summer School;
  • The CVs of the Organizing Committee Members, as well as those of the Greek and foreign instructors and lecturers;
  • An action plan timetable and a detailed programme depicting the curriculum and other activities;
  • A detailed budget;
  • The invitation and selection procedure for students attending the Summer School;
  • Any experience in organizing Summer Schools, as well as any other relevant details, which may be taken into consideration during the evaluation.

Assessment - Selection


A Scientific Committee will assess the submitted proposals on behalf of the Foundation and recommend that the Foundation Executive Board funds one of them. The financing will include all manner of taxes and dues.
