Public call for one-year research projects for the year 2010

The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation invites proposals for original research projects for 2010 in the following fields:


1. Social Sciences and Humanities

1.1. Institutions and Markets
2.2. Institutions, Values, Beliefs, and Behaviour
3.3. Environment and Society
4.4. The Human Mind and its Complexity
5.5. Cultures and Cultural Production
6.6. Study of the Human Past


2. Science

1.1. Computer Science and Informatics
2.2. Products and Process Engineering
3.3. Earth System Science


3. Life Sciences
1.1. Diagnostic Tools, Therapies and Public Health
2.2. Evolutionary, Population and Environmental Biology
3.3. Applied Life Sciences and Biotechnology


For additional information regarding the above classification of the various fields of research, please consult the classification structure used for the programme. Your research proposal will be assigned to a field during the application process, when the Application Submission System on the Foundation Website goes live (see Application Submission Period).

Terms and Conditions

  • The proposal must be submitted by a research group with a project coordinator.
  • The proposal must not constitute part of a doctoral dissertation or postgraduate thesis.
  • The proposal must not be part of any research project or programme funded by any other source.
  • The projects must be completed by the selected groups within one year from the Foundation’s announcement of results.


Funding
The funding of each research project will be based on an analytical budget, which must be submitted along with all other data required on the application form. Maximum funding per project may not exceed the sum of twelve thousand Euros (€ 12,000), which will include all deductions.

Evaluation
The proposals will be evaluated by the Foundation Scientific Evaluation Committee, which has been set up for this specific purpose. The Foundation Executive Committee, taking into consideration the above-mentioned evaluation, will proceed at its own discretion to select up to a total of 20 projects from the above fields, which will be funded during the year 2010. The number of research projects per field to be funded will be set during the evaluation process.


Application Submission Period
Applications will only be accepted during the period from September 1, 2009 to September 15, 2009. Applications may only be submitted electronically via the Application Submission System, which will go live on the Foundation Website on September 1, 2009.


Results
Results will be announced by November 16, 2009.
