These students with their great talent in mathematics continued the long tradition of success by the Greek teams in the International Mathematical Olympiads, doing justice to the work performed by the Hellenic Mathematical Society that voluntarily prepares and supports their efforts. The journals published by the Hellenic Mathematical Society “Euclid A” for high school students, “Euclid B” for lyceum students and “Little Euclid” for primary school students are supporting material for these competitions, as they include exercises and solutions from each year’s Panhellenic and International competitions, as well as similar questions and problems prepared by the competitions’ committees.
It should also be noted that Greece won a gold medal in an International Mathematical Olympiad for the second consecutive year.
Students were accompanied by Associate Professor in the National Technical University of Athens Anargyros Fellouris and mathematician Evangelos Zotos.
These competitions, as well as other activities by the Hellenic Mathematical Society are supported by the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, since 2010. For further information, click here.
‘This great success of the Greek students in the 53rd International Mathematical Olympiad in Argentina must not be seen as an individual incident. It is a projection of the Greek student community that has excellent capabilities and prospects of progress when the appropriate conditions are met. The Hellenic Mathematical Society is an institution that constantly and systematically nurtures this prospect of progress and hope through the love of mathematical science and this is exactly the reason why the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation has decided to support and finance the Society’s activities’, said the secretary of the Foundation’s Executive Board, Dimitris Afendoulis.
