FAQ's
Proposal Submission Process
Proposals will only be submitted electronically from June 15th, 2011, until noon June the 30th, 2011, via the Online Submission System (http://oss.latsis-foundation.org/), which may be accessed during the above period only.
The project coordinator signs up to the system and acquires a personal account. With this account, the coordinator will be able to sign in the system at any time until the deadline expires. The coordinator submits the proposal by filling-in the respective online submission form. The system allows the coordinator to save the submission form without having previously filled-in all the data. This enables the incremental modification of the proposal's information: the coordinator may sign in to the system and update the proposal submission form multiple times until the expiration of the deadline, while the system provides information on the proposal's fields that have not yet been filled-in.
For your convenience, each proposal that has been successfully saved to the system, is considered to be submitted (regardless of whether it contains complete or deficient information). The proposal is assigned a unique code; this constitutes an electronic confirmation of receipt by the Foundation.
In this way, the process of filling-in the application form is simplified, as the user is not obliged to fill-in all the form fields at one go with the risk of losing all the data in case of an error. On the contrary, the system allows the users to fill-in the submission form in separate steps, where they can add, edit and store the proposal's information at their convenience.
The user is informed directly, in real-time, about whether the information of his proposal has been successfully stored, while the system alerts him regarding any required data missing. Any changes made to the proposal data will be stored under the same unique code, replacing any previous data.
Right after the deadline expires, regardless of whether the proposal is complete or not, the system will send an email to the coordinator, which will include all information of their submitted proposal.
Completing and finalizing the proposal within the submission deadline is the coordinator's responsibility. Incomplete proposals will not be taken into consideration by the Scientific Evaluation Committee.

11. You will have the option to attach an appendix to your proposal, providing additional information such as figures, graphs, drawings, etc. Submitting an appendix is optional and it should be performed only in cases that the included figures, graphs, drawings, etc are considered significant for the evaluation of the proposal.
12. If the project's coordinator or any other of the members has submitted a proposal in the past public calls of the Foundation, you should indicate it in the relative field.

12. If the project's coordinator or any other of the members has submitted a proposal in the past public calls of the Foundation, you should indicate it in the relative field.
The call supports all the scientific fields of the European Research Council's classification, expanding in every aspect of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Engineering, Information and Communication, Universe and Earth Sciences and Life Sciences. You may find further analysis regarding the categorization of scientific fields here:
http://www.latsis-foundation.org/files/Attachments/ERC_Panel_Str_Descr.pdf.
http://www.latsis-foundation.org/files/Attachments/ERC_Panel_Str_Descr.pdf.
You must select one of the three scientific fields issued in the call as primary; however you will have the option to select secondary scientific fields to which your proposal pertains.
Your proposal must be submitted either in Greek or in English. Greek speakers must fill-in the project's title, its summary and the coordinator's and the group members' data (not their CVs) in both languages. Non-Greek speakers must fill-in the above information in English only. The submission language is defined by the coordinator during his registration to the system and it cannot be changed after this registration.
The submission language does not affect the proposal's evaluation in any way. The distincion between the two languages only serves the convenience in submitting non-greek proposals.

No information will be accepted after the submission period is over.
Yes, you can. Having submitted proposals in past calls does not affect in any way the evaluation of your current proposal.
Project Group
It is not necessary.
There is no limitation concerning the coordinator-institution or the group member-institution employment relationship.
Yes, it is necessary that all group members are mentioned by name, as well as the submission of their CVs.
Yes, all CVs should have the following structure:
1. Education. In case that the coordinator or the group member is a PhD candidate or holder, the PhD thesis title and supervisor should be mentioned.
2. Employment record (research/professional experience).
3. Publications. Publications relative to the submitting project (maximum 10 publications).
4. Additional information. Any other information that is considered relative to the proposed project.
In order for the submission of CVs process to be simplified, the Online Submission System provides a CV guide, which contains the desirable logical structure of CVs and is not restraining as far as their format or layout is concerned.

Eligible project expenses are those that are associated with the implementation of the project's purposes. For example, eligible expenses are, indicatively, the following: compensation of coordinator and group members, transportation and accomodation, equipment and consumables, deduction and taxes, other expenses. VAT is considered an eligible expense and should be calculated in each expense category of the budget analysis, if applicable.
With the exception of the “Other Expenses” category, which cannot exceed 5% of the total budget, there are no preset quotas for the remaining eligible expenses.
Yes, the coordinator can submit the project's budget analysis using the system's budget analysis template.
This is not necessary during the submission process. Should your proposal be approved for funding, then these must be available.
Proposal Evaluation, Selection & Implementation
The Foundation will assign this task to a Scientific Evaluation Committee.
A maximum of twenty (20) proposals will be funded, while the percentage per scientific field may vary.
The evaluation results will be posted on the Foundation’s website on the 31st of October, 2011; on the day they are posted, all group project coordinators will be informed of the results via e-mail.
The selected groups will sign a contract with the Foundation, which will provide a detailed description of the financing and project implementation terms.
No additional information regarding the evaluation results will be announced.
The intellectual copyrights on the research projects funded by the Foundation will belong to the project developers.
Work on the approved projects is due to begin on 2/1/2012 and end on 3/12/2012.

Α. During the process of filling-in the submission form fields, using older versions of Microsoft Office may cause text encoding problems while copying and pasting your text. We suggest that you use Openoffice.org (http://www.openoffice.org/) as far as editing your texts and performing “copy/paste” in the submission form is concerned. Additionally, Openoffice.org supports file conversion in PDF format, a functionality that will prove useful during the submission of your proposal.
