Contemporary Greek Landscapes

Harokopion University

Funding of the publication (2011)

Aiming at the enhancement of post-doctoral research in Greece, the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation funded over the period 2008-2010, the research program entitled: "Greekscapes: a 'bird's eye view atlas of Greek landscapes", conducted with the coordination of Professor Kostis Hadjimichalis, Department of Geography, Harokopion University of Athens.

Main objective of the specific program was the  mapping and representation of landscapes that may not have aesthetical, turist, environmental or ecological value, however they reflect the human and economic activity, the social structuring and the special characteristics of each place, being, at the same time, integral parts of modern Greece. Based on the aerial photographs, the research team compiled scientific texts, performed fieldwork, took photographs and created maps and diagrams.

The program's results are available at the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation's website as well as at www.greekscapes.gr. One of the products of this research is the publication entitled "Modern Greek Landscapes", which was also partially funded by the Foundation.
